3-12-2017 Waisted Time

FROM THE PASTOR

March 12, 2017

The psychological loss of an hour this week gave me pause to stop and think. Have you ever been regretful for the wasted time in your life? No, I’m not speaking of rest or relaxation time. We ALL need that. I am referring to time spent on things you shouldn’t have been involved in in the first place.

I know you know what I mean. In fact I’m confident that we all have experienced what I’m referring to. It’s time spent on something that consumed precious time which, if invested wisely, could have made a difference to someone or something, especially the Kingdom.

Occasionally, I have found myself reflecting back, sighing and saying, “Why God, why did I waste away so much time on the trivial when there was so much that could have been profitable?” Most of the time it’s reflecting back on rebellious choices that placed God on the back-burner or no-burner. Time spent on the flesh, worldly pleasure and the pride of life. Not a very pretty picture… but true.

The Psalmist wrote…

Psalm 90:10 (NASB)
10 As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we fly away.

There is an old rhyme I learned long ago that states, “Only one life will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” It’s definitely a true and insightful statement to remember. Especially in light of the fact that even the most devoted Christian has a limited amount of time to invest in others and the Kingdom until our days have reached their conclusion.

Paul reminded us…

Colossians 3:23 (NASB)
23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,

We are not our own. We are His to use us a He sees best... in His time.

I am also thankful that those bouts of reflection are usually brief as God fills my heart with Himself and reminds me how much He loves me.

In His time, in His time
He makes all things beautiful
In His time

Lord, please show me every day
As You're teaching me Your way
That You do just what You say
In Your time

In Your time, in Your time
You make all things beautiful
In Your time

Lord, my life to You I bring
May each song I have to sing
Be to You a lovely thing

In Your Time

Thank You for your faithfulness! Pastor Larry
